Heeeellooooo there! Happy Friday!! Who is ready for the weekend?! Today's guest is a mega boss babe! Lisa and I met at MBG Revitalize last September, and she's been someone I've looked up to since. Lisa is a Registered Dietitian and runs the blog, The Well Necessities. She gives simple nutrition breakdowns that are easy to understand (none of that science mumbo-jumbo). What is your zodiac sign? Cancer, June 30!
Tell us about the path that lead you to starting your blog, The Well Necessities. It was a bit more organic than I care to admit! It began when I was doing my dietetic internship and I felt like I needed a platform to share all that I was taking in. It has transformed so much over the last 3 years. At first, I was writing just to write. Now, I talk to an audience that I get to know better each day. We're constantly growing, and looking for feedback!
What does a day in the life of Lisa look like? Fortunately, it's different each day, which keeps me super sane. It's also busy, which is great for me because I don't do too well with down time. The days are a mix of seeing clients one on one, content creation, and organization and management. I work with clients virtually and in our NYC office, and am constantly brainstorming how to create organic content as well as sponsored content. when it comes to sponsored content, I want to a) serve my audience by sharing the brands audience in the best most natural light and b) make the brand happy by representing them in a way that they are proud! I love that each day I Get to use my clinical, counseling, interpersonal, and creative skills!
What's your favorite wellness trend right now? There is a place in NYC that just opened called Shape House. It's an infrared sauna wrap experience. You basically just sweat for 50 minutes. Before trying, I thought I would hate. I tried it simply because my friend does their PR. But I loved it! I loved the scheduled down time- even the scheduled NO PHONE time and loved how I felt after. So energized and good!
Any big plans for The Well Necessities in 2018? Definitely! We are launching an online course for Quiet the Noise. QTN started as a 2 hour workshop I co-created with Dr. Naomi Arbit on Mindful Eating and Self Compassion. As we took it from city to city, we learned that people wanted more. We are in the middle of creating it and it is JAMMED with fresh content we have created from scratch. We're not talking at you- we created meditations and experiences to really create cognitive change. I'm so excited because this is going to change the lives of so many by teaching people the tools to turn inwards, clarify their values and relate to food and body image in a way most of us don't! It's a course I wish I had 10 years ago. I've also got a few other tricks up my sleeve but I don't want to talk too soon before things are finalized!
What is the biggest message you want to share through your platform? Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff. This reflects that life is short and we need to learn to really behave in a way that reflects our values and preserve our energy for the things that matter in life.
